GCSU Transportation Overview

Lots of people drive every day alone.  This costs a lot of fuel, and creates a lot of greenhouse gases.

There are many options to driving a car, including:

  • Walking

  • Riding a bicycle

  • Carpooling

  • Telecommuting

A sustainable solution to transportation would also include environmentally friendly fuels, such as bio-diesel and wind power.  The solar power generation potential of GCSU campus has been estimated.

GCSU Parking Policy

Our current parking policy is geared toward suiting the needs of those who drive cars.

Other concerns are greenspace, pollution, cost, visual blight, traffic hazards, congestion, and detriment to the goals of a liberal arts education.

Alternative Transportation Options

Green Initiative could help develop alternatives.  Many alternatives are healthy and therapeutic.

Global Implications of Your Transportation Choices

Global warming is caused by each of us and our daily decisions.

As a liberal arts school, we need to set the bar higher.  We need to be envisioning how life will be in the future, without damaging greenhouse emissions.

Transportation and Parking Policy

Policy recommendations for transportation and parking alternatives are currently being developed by the GCSU Green Initiative Task Force.
