Campus Water Usage
The dry conditions of late 2007 inspired Governor Sonny Perdue to call on every University System of Georgia campus to reduce water usage by ten percent. Vice-President for Business and Finance Pete Shields has called on a GCSU Water Conservation Committee to examine the situation and make recommendations. That group has meet twice since December 2007.
Information and recommendations from the Water Conservation Committee will be shared on this page.
These web sites highlight the drought and the state response:
Water Conservation Efforts
Water is a limited resource in Georgia because our only source is precipitation. All the rivers that serve Georgia's cities, industries, and farms originate from precipitation that falls on our state. When the rain stops, our rivers and lakes dry up, because human demand for water is great.
Georgians consume a lot of water.
These we sites help explain ways to conserve water, both at home or in your residence hall or office.
Wastewater Recovery
At the present time, GCSU campus does not have an extensive wastewater recovery program. In the future, this method of re-using water may be a viable option for irrigation water.
Water Conservation in the Community
The City of Milledgeville follows State regulations regarding outdoor watering.
Global Implications of Your Water Use
Water is a critical public resource. Billions of people around the world have to struggle every day to acquire clean water for drinking, cooking, and bathing. Water pollution contaminates water, and the increasing strain of population growth threatens shared supplies, especially in less humid regions.
Policy Recommendations Policy recommendations are being prepared.
