Friday, December 5, 2008, 7 p.m. The Lives of Others German film described as both “horrifying” and “unintentionally funny” which tells the story of East German celebrities who become observed by their country’s secret service when they are thought to be disloyal to the state. Friday, February 6, 2009, 7 p.m. Curse of the Golden Flower Chinese work described as a “martial arts epic masterpiece,” this film tells the tale of a royal family divided against itself. It builds to a mythic climax as lines are crossed, trust is betrayed, and family blood is spilled in the quest for redemption and revenge. Friday, March 9, 2009, 7 p.m. Les Choristes French film set in the mid-1900s which tells the story of a teacher who comes to work at a school for “difficult boys.” As he realizes that the discipline approach the school had used was ineffective he tries to reach the boys and build trust and true order through music. Friday, April 3, 2009, 7 p.m. Cecilia Cuban film which is loosely based on the classic novel, Cecilia Valdéz, the movie is a reflection of Cuban nationality symbolized by a mestizo woman who struggles to become a part of the world of the white aristocracy. Friday, May 1, 2009, 7 p.m. Blood Diamond U.S. film set against the backdrop of civil war and chaos in the Sierra Leone of the 1990s. This movie tells the story of two completely different African men who become joined in a common quest to recover a rare pink diamond that can transform their lives.
