Staff Council
Annual Report FY 2001-2002
April 30, 2002
The 2001-2002 academic year has been one of many changes and opportunities for
Staff Council.
The mission of Staff Council is to promote staff while supporting the mission of
the university. The funding for staff development was increased this year to
allow even more training for staff and non-teaching faculty ranked employees.
Staff Council has taken an active role in the governance and statutes of the
university. This year Staff Council renewed communication with Faculty Senate
and participated in governance discussions with Hugh Hudson. Open communication
between faculty and staff, as well as the administration, needs to continue.
Many of the issues and concerns are the same for all areas: student, faculty,
administrators and staff.
The proposed University Senate would be in the best interest of the university.
Staff Council officially requested two elected positions on this policy making
body. The two elected positions would represent approximately 519 staff members.
It is felt that staff should have an elected voice in the policy making body.
Staff Council Accomplishments:
· Development Funds were used to support over 60 seminars, conferences, and
professional
development course for staff.
· Assisted Human Resources with Benefits Day.
· Promoted Free Attendance for Staff and their families for the Lady Bobcats &
Bobcat Basketball.
· Supported local community and national charities.
· Sponsored an End of the Year Staff Appreciation reception.
· Increased amount of the Staff Excellence Award and expanded the event to
include new
employees.
· Requested and received a staff position on the Technology Committee.
Respectfully submitted,
