7th Annual USG Staff Conference

The 7th annual Staff Conference was held at Kennesaw State University, Oct 4-5, 2001. Eight staff members from GC&SU attended the conference. We were greeted by the Kennesaw Staff Council at the Legacy Gazebo on the main campus of KSU. Our state staff council representative, Ainsley Eubanks and staff council chair-elect, Barbara Monnett, met with the State Staff Council for the business meeting. All attendees were treated to some "out of this world" good food as we listened to live music.

Dr. Daniel L. Papp, Senior Vice Chancellor (Office of Academics & Fiscal Affairs) from the Board of Regents spoke to the group Thursday evening. He explained the reasons for the operating expense budget cuts and fielded questions on a variety of topics.

Attendees were welcomed Friday morning by KSU's Vice President for Business & Finance, Dr. Earl Holly, and then went to various workshops including Web Page Design & Creation, Idea Exchange Round Table Discussions, and Conflict Resolution. The luncheon was superb as was the information on Kennesaw's staff development EXCEL program. Keynote speaker Tony Ingles, head basketball coach at KSU, was truly inspirational and entertaining. The day concluded with a general session on the Teachers Retirement System conducted by retirement counselor Gloria Inniss.

Those in attendance were Ainsley Eubanks, Terri Pope, and Ann Portwood from the College of Arts & Science; Melba Hilson, Paula Jefferson, Lori Strawder, and Jerri Veal from the School of Business; and Barbara Monnett from University Communications.

We hope that others will be able to attend next year's annual event to be held October 3-4, 2002, at State University of West Georgia in Carrollton. The theme is "Working Together to Make the University System Better."
