The committee has completed 4 meetings and has determined the following proposals for the development of this program:

F     The program will be offered as an option to all new employees of GCSU of staff classification beginning with hire date July 1, 2007.  Additionally, all staff employees hired between June 1, 2007 and June 30, 2007 will be invited to participate.  Participation in the program is purely voluntary.

F     The program will not replace job training or skills enhancement but will serve to establish a dependable, positive on-campus connection with a current experienced employee for assistance with navigating the many information systems and campus resources available to all employees as well as providing a point of contact for social and professional development opportunities.

F     The program will be coordinated through a partnership representing both Human Resources and Standing Committee of the Staff Council with primary duties maintained by the (proposed) training coordinator in Human Resources. (Proposed and dependent on approval for hire and final approval for program responsibility by the Director of Human Resources.)

F     Some information session programs will be created for enhanced discussion of programs, benefits, and campus resources available for employees and will augment the information sessions provided at Orientation and the Benefits Fairs.  *May coincide with the “Lunch and Learn” series offerings.

F     Mentors eligibility requirements include a minimum of one-year employment with GCSU with no disciplinary action on record during the last 12 month period and no more than 1 disciplinary action on record for employees with longer service.

F     Mentor assignments will not be based on job classification or department/unit.

F     Mentors will not exceed the maximum of two protégé’s/ mentees per service term.

F     Because hiring occurs year-round, the activities of mentor program are designed for a cycle of one-year service terms of rolling beginning and end dates, however mentors serve from July 1 to June 30 of each calendar year.*(This is still under discussion.)

F     Mentors are not compensated for service but are recognized with certificate at the beginning of each term and/or recognition at University staff meetings during each semester for their service to the University.

Current Topics for further discussion:

F     Number of mentors needed to create successful program (need information regarding hiring stats for last 24 months and number of existing staff who meet criteria for mentor eligibility.)

F     Funding for brochures, web development, etc…

F     Flow of communication for new hires to begin process for mentoring program assignment and communication.

F     Frequency of training programs and topics

F     Development of promotional materials

F     Development of applications (mentors and protégé’s)

F     Development of approval form for mentors’ supervisors to approve participation by staff member.

Meetings of the committee will continue monthly until the program is implemented.
