Culver's debut art exhibit to be held at Georgia College

"Traveling through Time Trying to Find Paradise," the debut exhibit of John Culver's art, will be on view Sept. 25 through Oct. 27 in the Blackbridge Hall Gallery at Georgia College & State University.

A reception for the artist will be held from 5-7 p.m. with a gallery talk 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 28. The exhibit and related events are free and open to the public.

Culver's debut art exhibit contains colorful works that contain much detail including lines, circles, music notes, hearts, crosses, eyes, and other shapes and symbols that have been drawn on paper or board.

Culver, a self-taught artist, was born in Hancock County, Ga. with Blount Disease. To correct his bow legs, he underwent several surgeries and wore leg braces. After withdrawing from school, Culver sought a trade at a vocational center in Milledgeville, Ga. Unable to get and maintain a well-paid job in the area, he moved to Atlanta. It was during this time in his early twenties that he began drawing.

"Traveling through Time Trying to Find Paradise" is the debut exhibit of Culver. It is curated by Anna Brown, a senior art major, as her capstone project for her Museum Studies course work at GCSU.

Blackbridge Hall Gallery is located on S. Clarke St., across from the Old Governor's Mansion. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. For more information, call (478) 445-4572.
