Mini grants support diversity at GCSU

The Office of Institutional Equity & Diversity, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs work collaboratively to promote diversity at GCSU. To do so, we are offering small curriculum and climate mini grants. This year's target includes initiatives outside the curriculum that impact the whole campus community. We hope this will provide some additional opportunities for all members of our community to support and further develop the university's integration of diversity and its commitment to local communities.

These grants have been renamed Equity and Diversity Mini Grants not just to reflect the change in the title of the office but also because we see diversity as a means of embracing our different values to promote the common good. We have decided to target projects from GCSU staff, in addition to faculty, in order to bridge the divide between GCSU as a school and GCSU as a place of employment and because we believe that it is important to prepare our student graduates to thrive in increasingly multicultural workplaces.

Application Information
This collaboration between Academic Affairs, Students Affairs and Equity and Diversity allows us to make small grants available to faculty and staff to propose and pursue projects related to equity and diversity on our campus.

These mini grants are designed to support limited-term projects, events, and activities. These grants are to encourage NEW projects that enhance university-community cooperation; examine the intersections of race, class, sexual orientation, religion, disability, gender, and ethnicity; promote cross-cultural literacy; develop perspectives on social and artistic issues; examine the relation between culture and society; explore innovative methods of teaching and learning; foster interdisciplinary cooperation; and provide unique opportunities to make progress in diversity at GCSU.

Who Can Apply
Mini Grant applications may be submitted by GCSU faculty or staff

Awards Levels
Grant award amounts can be individual awards to fulfill the needs of a specific event or projects, and range between $100 and a maximum of $500. Activities include but are not restricted to guest speaker honorariums, speaker travel, and publicity. (Any materials such as videos or books will be housed in the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity in order to reduce duplication of materials.) Although professional development is important, these grants may not be used for development purposes.

Please Note
Complete application packets, including all supporting material, must be postmarked by September 17, 2007.
