Making the lifestyle leap from Milledgeville to New York City is something most local residents and students rarely consider, but it has become a reality for Georgia College & State University student Tyler Flowers. With only one credit hour left to earn his mass communication degree, Flowers received an appointment as an intern on the David Letterman Show through Dec. 21.
Flowers made a second application for the limited internship in the spring. He initially applied in September 2006 but did not receive a response. Ever diligent, Flowers reapplied in April and received word of his appointment June 28.
"The process took so long that I did not think I would get it, but now I am loving every minute of it," Flowers said.
Flowers works as the human-interest intern and helps screen people for the "Stupid Human Tricks" and "Stupid Pet Tricks" segments.
"My duties include looking through the daily papers for articles about interesting people, getting coffee, sending faxes, answering phones,” Flowers said. “And when we have human interest guests, I assist them with whatever they need."
Flowers said he is enjoying his new position.
"I am so blessed to be there, the people are so nice to work with,” he said. “And I have already seen my work paying off."
