Georgia College recently implemented a new online, paperless process for applying for both faculty and staff positions.Gone are the days of filling by hand a multiple-page application for each position. Now, with a few clicks on the keyboard, job seekers can post their qualifications on line for multiple positions.
The new online employment process at www.GCSUJobs.com is designed to address both the needs of university recruitment and provide state-of-the-art technology to simplify the employment process.
“This way we can manage the process better for both the applicants and the university,” said Diane Kirkwood, Director of Human Resources. “We no longer will have to shuffle papers, and applicants can trace the hiring process through the online system.”
The paperless application allows job seekers to search for positions all day every day, apply for multiple positions online at one time and attach their resumes for the hiring supervisors. The system also allows applicants an opportunity to establish a password-protected individual file to maintain or update their application. And applicants can check on line whether the position has been filled.
“We get lots of calls asking if a particular position is filled,” Kirkwood said. “Now applicants can check for themselves. We also can provide assistance in the human resource office to applicants who do not have access to an online computer. It’s not any less personal. It’s just a lot more convenient.”
The new online system speeds up the application process and lessens the paperwork on the five-member human resource staff that handles 5,000 applications annually, making multiple copies of the application and resumes for search committees and hiring managers, Kirkwood said.
The GCSUJobs.com site is a huge asset in Georgia College’s nationally effort to recruit candidates for faculty positions, according to Vice President and Dean of Faculties Anne Gormly who served on the system implementation team.
"The site provides us with an expanded opportunity to inform candidates about our mission, our expectations, and the rewards associated with coming to Georgia College and Milledgeville,” Gormly said. “Most of our candidates for faculty positions learn about us first through our website, so the on-line system makes us attractive and competitive with other institutions nationwide.”
The online process also benefits university search committees, Gormly said.
“It also makes it easier for faculty search committee members to review candidate materials since they are accessible through a password protected site,” she said. “Already, our candidate pools are larger and broader as a result of the extended reach GCSUJobs allows us.”
