GCSU students land jobs at Robins AFB

The Robins Air Force Base Employment Office confirmed that 14 current and former GCSU students were competitively selected for federal civil service positions.

Base officials interviewed Georgia College students and alumni from the main campus, Macon and Robins AFB centers, as well as 3 other USG institutions – Macon State College, Fort Valley State University, and Georgia Southern. Georgia College students captured almost two-thirds of the 22 positions.

These positions are a portion of the many “job partnering” opportunities GCSU has established with Robins AFB.

During the past several years many School of Business undergraduate students have been competitively selected for Co-OP position on base in the logistics, financial management, information technology and contracting related career fields. Upon graduation these students are eligible to be converted to full-time federal civil service status.

The base conducts two Co-OP opportunity recruitment rounds each year—usually in March and October. Additionally, a program has been created for graduate students in GCSU’s Master of Public Administration students to land full-time jobs in the human resource management career field.

During last summer’s initial implementation of this program, five of the seven students who applied were selected and started working on the base. This same program is currently undergoing a second round of competitive selection and the base projects to hire 3 more students.

Georgia College also has negotiated the framework for a similar program for MBA, MPA, and MSA/LM students and alumni to compete for logistics and financial management related jobs. The base hopes to implement this program sometime in the near future depending on their manpower funding outlook.

The jobs at Robins AFB offer great opportunities for Georgia College students. Besides inherently meaningful and important work, they all have wonderful pay, benefits, and great upward mobility possibilities.
