Georgia College Police Department wins International Design Contest

large photo Georgia College & State University Police Department is featured in the just released August issue of LAW and ORDER magazine, thanks to the innovative design of the department’s Dodge Charger patrol cars.

The department’s winning design took top spot in the College Category nationwide for the Hendon Publishing International Police Vehicle Design Contest People’s Choice Award, beating out 12 nationwide competitors.

“We’ve gone from a very plain design to a design that allows us to express the importance of the Georgia College & State University Police Department,” said Sgt. Greg Williams.

The winning design features a school colors of blue and green stripes that indicate forward motion, the goal for the police department and the university. The silver background presents a crisp, professional image suitable for the official business of the police department.

The department’s motto, “Protect-Serve-Education” is displayed on the back fender of the cars along with the Bobcat mascot.

Maj. Joe Grant and Williams worked together to choose the lights and design for the vehicles.

“Joe Grant was instrumental in getting things done,” Williams said. “He ordered the Chargers.”

The police department chose the Dodge Charger for its fuel-efficiency as well as its powerful design. The first Charger arrived in December 2008 and debuted at the Milledgeville Christmas Parade.

“We wanted our design to reflect the partnership between the university and the police department,” Williams said. “We are very invested in the students and in the community.”
