Georgia College Honors alumna Dr. Lynne S. Wilcox,'75,’ will give a lecture titled, "Swine Flu: History, Science, and Politics" at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 in the Museum Education Room.Dr. Wilcox has a 25-year career in public health, including 20 years at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
She is the founding editor of “Preventing Chronic Disease: Public Health Research, Practice, and Policy (PCD),” an online, peer-reviewed journal, and the author of more than 70 reports and articles on chronic diseases, women’s health, and worksite heath.
Dr. Wilcox has served as an advisor for national panels for government, nonprofit, and private organizations, including the World Health Organization, Surgeon General’s Report on Bone Health, March of Dimes, National Women’s Law Center, and the National Committee on Quality Assurance.
She is a retired captain, United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and served as Planning Chief for USPHS Rapid Deployment Force 3 (disaster response).
Dr. Wilcox earned a bachelor ‘s degree in biology at Georgia College (1975), a medical degree at The Medical College of Georgia (1980), and a master’s degree in public health at Johns Hopkins University (1987).
