The 10 students who make up the Student Night Auxiliary Patrol, SNAP, escort students, faculty and staff members via golf carts across campus Monday through Thursday.
“We happen to have wonderful students who want to make the campus a safer place,” said Sgt. Greg Williams with Georgia College Police and Coordinator of SNAP.
The volunteers are very organized and keep detailed logs of passengers.
SNAP officers are easily identifiable. They wear green polo-type shirts with a badge emblem displaying SNAP and drive golf carts marked with the university logo.
The student officers also patrol Georgia College parking lots and any immediately surrounding property.
Student officers volunteer up to 14 hours a week to ensure the safety of their peers.
The patrol is financially sound and energy efficient.
Officers use surplus police radios to communicate, and they drive electric golf carts, eliminating the need for a gas budget.
